Choose your client first: what each entry point is for

WorkBuddy comes as a desktop app (Windows/macOS), a mobile app (iOS/Android) and a WeChat mini program, plus a web version. The division of labor is simple: the desktop handles the heavy work and can read and write local folders you authorize; the mobile app and mini program are for assigning tasks, tracking progress and receiving results; the web version is handy when you're borrowing someone else's computer.

Desktop installation

Go to the download page on the official site, grab the installer for your system, double-click it, and sign in on first launch. If Windows shows a security prompt, confirm following the system guidance. Before rushing to create a task, point "Workspace" at the folder where your everyday documents live — that saves a lot of hunting for files later.

Mobile app and WeChat mini program

Search for and install the mobile app from your app store; if you'd rather not install anything, search for and open the mini program inside WeChat. The mini program wins on zero installation and suits assigning work while traveling or commuting; the app has fuller permissions and handles photos, files and notifications more smoothly. Both show the tasks under the same account.

Signing in and granting permissions

Sign in with the same WeChat account on all three clients so tasks and results are shared — this matters especially for "Connect to computer", which requires the desktop app to be running and the phone to be signed in to the same account. On first use it requests permissions one after another: notifications (alerts when a task finishes), photos and files (uploading materials), camera and microphone (photos, voice input). The principle is to grant on demand: start with notifications and files only, turn on the microphone when you actually use voice, and switch off anything you don't use in system settings.

Interface tour: three areas

  • Sidebar: create tasks, switch between past tasks, manage spaces and settings — how you move back and forth when several tasks run in parallel.
  • Conversation area: enter tasks and read the step cards. Cards expand to show what each step did, and can be marked "done" by hand.
  • Results panel: finished files and previews collect here; downloading, opening and following up all happen from this spot.

Modes, skills and the model switcher

The input box is the key: type @ to reference files, / to invoke skills and commands; the bottom right switches models; the top switches between "daily office work" and "code development". Use Craft for deep tasks and Ask for simple questions to save credits. On your first visit, click through / once to see which ready-made skills exist — far faster than describing a requirement from scratch.

Three things to do right after installing

  1. Set up your workspace and authorize only the folder you actually need.
  2. Run a small task to validate the pipeline, such as "rename the images in this folder by date".
  3. Turn on notifications and confirm that results are pushed to your phone when a task finishes.

Once all three clients are configured, you're ready to send your first real task. To compare other tools side by side, head to AI Tools.
